Women’s Health Week
1 min read

This September, local communities, workplaces and governments are joining together in celebration of Women’s Health Week, with more than 1,500 events registered and set to take place in every state and territory.

The annual event is led by national not-for-profit Jean Hailes for Women’s Health, an organisation dedicated to women’s health and providing clinical care, educational resources and evidence-based health information to all women, girls and gender-diverse people, and the health professionals who care for them.

Women’s Health Week aims to increase awareness and education of women’s health topics ranging from pelvic pain to menopause and to encourage the community to participate in regular health checks and screenings.

This year, Jean Hailes has partnered with health organisations around the country to support communities in need as local communities have worked to boost event registrations with health information sessions, morning teas and workshops planned at various community centres.

Jean Hailes CEO, Dr Sarah White, said, “Our mission is to provide accessible evidenced-based health information to all women. I am heartened that more than half of the Women’s Health Week events this year are supporting LGBTIQ communities, women with disabilities, First Nations communities and cultural and linguistically diverse groups.”

The events held in NSW will include a free women’s health and wellbeing expo at Colyton Neighbourhood Centre hosted by Community Junction Inc, a community walk at sunrise along Bondi Beach and the opening of Melton Medical Centre, one of the first dedicated pelvic pain clinics in Australia being delivered as part of the federal government’s endometriosis and pelvic pain package.
