SYDNEY'S biggest Book Fair is coming up 18-21 July. “And I wouldn’t miss it for the world” says avid book reader and teacher Beverley Dawe from Lindfield. To be held at Knox Grammar School, Wahroonga, for the first time at the Great Hall.
The Lifeline Book Fair, now in its 20th year, offers 110,000 titles of preloved books of outstanding quality, range and scope in more than 50 categories. ”Having taught many thousands of children during my career I know the importance of reading and the impact this can have on their growth, development and love of literature. But new books today are becoming too costly for me and my family. This is why I love the Lifeline Book Fair. Here I can pick up real bargains at a fraction of the cost of new books. And it's all so convenient with categories including Animals, Art, Architecture, Biography, Cookery, Craft, Fiction, Gardening, History, Literature, Military, Music, Psychology, Science, Sci FI, Sport, Transport and Travel. The teenagers in my family really appreciate the Study Guides and Textbooks, while my youngest always race to the back of the hall at Knox, to check out the huge Children’s section. A few years ago, during Covid we spent a lot of time doing jigsaws, a habit we maintain today so its good to know there are jigsaws, as well as board games, videos and CDs.”
Proceeds from the Book Fair go towards Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury Sydney’s support services including the 24/7 telephone crisis line 13 11 14, community aid, counselling and psychological services, emergency relief and financial counselling. According to Elizabeth Lovell, Lifeline CEO “The Book Fair is critical to us. The need for our services has escalated. We need more resources and trainers to cope with the surge in demand, particularly around mental health and suicide prevention. We couldn’t do all this without the Book Fair”
