BACK in November of last year, a music studio opened in Roseville with a message that makes it stand out from the various musical education options within the community.

Stormer Music Studio in Roseville is about giving people the chance to play music, build confidence and as the Stormer Music tagline goes: “making the world a more musical place”.

Stormer music is a franchise, however Brian, a local guitar teacher, was asked to run the Roseville studio at the commencement of it’s opening. This studio is the only one Stormer Music has opened in the North of Sydney so far.

Brian has been teaching local musicians from their homes for 10 years, however, the recurring thought of opening a music school has played on his mind from time to time. 

Brian was thrilled to have the opportunity to run a local music studio, despite it being overseen by an established franchise ‘Stormer Music’. Brian says that he has a lot of control of how the Roseville studio runs and is happy to be part of the Stormer Music Franchise as both the franchise and Brian’s vision for running a music school align. 

Brian usually teaches guitar, and its family instruments such as ukulele and bass, but at Stormer Music Roseville Brian has recruited has a range of teachers who teach a variety of instruments.

 At the moment the studio specialises in teaching guitar, piano, violin, singing and drums.

The studio also prides itself in its attempt to diminish certain stereotypes that surround musical instruments. These stereotypes include the idea that some instruments are more popular than others, and some instruments are assigned to different genders such as guitar being a boy instrument and piano maybe being more of a girl instrument. 

Stormer Music Roseville encourages aspiring music-lovers to learn what instruments they like without stereotypes, and simply enjoy the music they play. 

Another stereotype that this music studio defies is that you can only learn a musical instrument when you’re young.

Upon my first visit to the Stormer Music Roseville Studio I observed a mother and daughter in the waiting room. At first, I assumed that the daughter was being dropped off by her mother for her music lesson, however it was wonderful to discover that they were both having a music lesson together. They were both at the same stage of learning, just at different ages.

What I found most intriguing about Stormer Music is that it  has a unique aspect to its education plan. The studio doesn't conduct examinations to assess students’ skills!

 Brian believes in this approach as he thinks that the skill-building process is very important, and tends to have the most success when applying positive pressure on the student.
