Soulscope: Covering the Whole Scope of Soul
1 min read

MOVING from Melbourne to Sydney in 1980, Georgina Reed, became a nightclub DJ in 1982, then, in 1989 she was introduced to community radio by a friend and has been broadcasting ever since.

“I first heard FM99.3 (known then as FM91.5 Rhythm & Jazz) when searching for something decent to listen to, and I joined the station in 1991.  On radio I’m able to play a much wider range of music than I could in the clubs”.

Known as Sydney’s Soul Sister, Georgi specialized in soul, funk and R&B.  Around 2015 she retired from club DJing, but continued her radio shows due to the huge amount of new music constantly created worldwide.

“So many unsigned local and international artists never get played, so by including their music, I help them to be heard around the world”.

In 2006, listener Peter March joined Soulscope as co-presenter, expanding the playlist to include his vast Latin and jazz music knowledge and CD collection.

On air for over 30 years, Georgi recommends community radio to anyone with an interest in music, community affairs, and people in general.

“Many people say they couldn’t do radio, and I say, neither could I before I started!  So, just give it a go”.

Northside Radio is always looking for dedicated volunteers, so drop in or call the manager on 9419 6969.

“It’s always a pleasure to play music for people who find music a pleasure”.
