All aboard the Night Train

SINCE he was quite young, Frank Crisp, presenter of Saturday night’s 4-hour program The Night Train, has been collecting records.  They have become an integral part of his adult live.

At various times over the years, Frank was drawn to various music styles including funk, soul, reggae, African, jazz, alt-rock, post-punk, electronic and avant-garde, becoming engrossed in each new discovery as he explored further.

He first became involved in radio (2JJ) at the end of high school as a career option but chose to travel overseas instead.  Then, between 1979-80 he became a production assistant at 2JJ, which further inspired his connection with radio.

In 2005 he saw a flyer seeking volunteers and took the opportunity to join Northside Radio, where he’s since been a regular broadcaster.

On air for over 15 years, Frank’s Night Train programme looks set to stay on track for many years to come.  He loves to explore the many genres that inspire him and always finds interesting, obscure and soul-nourishing tracks to entertain his audience.

Frank says: “Volunteering is good for the soul and makes me a better person”.

The best advice he’s received about being a presenter:  “It’s not about your ego, it’s about enriching the listener’s life.  Be a volunteer that contributes to the running of the station.  Follow advice.  Be serious, and be committed.  But always be yourself on air.  Listeners want a relationship with a real person.”
